Alieh Hruzdzilovič, Alieś Daščynski of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty said to have been put in custody for 10 days as suspects
Alieh Hruzdzilovič and Alieś Daščynski have been put in custody for 10 days as suspects in a criminal case, the Belarusian Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Tuesday, citing an officer at the Minsk police department’s detention center where the two journalists are being held.
The Minsk city office of the Investigative Committee is known to be in charge of the case.
Messrs. Hruzdzilovič and Alieś Daščynski, veteran journalists with the Belarusian Service of RFE/RL, and former RFE/RL reporter Ina Studzinskaja were arrested on July 16, as a result of searches of media outlets’ offices and the homes of more than 20 journalists in Minsk and other cities.
It is still unclear what they are accused of. Their lawyers have not yet been granted access to them.
