    “We call for the restoration of press freedom”. Australian organizations show solidarity with jailed journalists from Belarus

    Media workers from the far-off continent joined the BAJ Solidarity Marathon in support of the imprisoned Belarusian journalists. The Australian Media, Entertainment, and Arts Alliance (MEAA) showed their support for the campaign launched in May from Vilnius.

    Reporters Without Borders expressed solidarity with imprisoned Belarusian journalists in 12 countries

    Reporters Without Borders (RSF) joined the solidarity marathon initiated by BAJ on the day of the appeal review in the TUT.BY case. Offices from 12 countries supported the campaign.

    Independent Belarusian journalists who had to flee their country to avoid persecution and now reside in Batumi, Georgia, organized a solidarity event in support of their colleagues who are incarcerated in Belarus on political grounds. After the action, they had a meeting with the Chairman of the Belarusian Association of Journalists to discuss journalistic work and life in Georgia.

    US director joins Solidarity Marathon in support of Larysa Shchyrakova

    This is another expression of support for Belarusian journalists who are currently imprisoned. Ernie Barbarash, a US American filmmaker, participated in the Marathon of Solidarity with imprisoned journalists, a campaign initiated by BAJ. He chose to show support for journalist Larysa Shchyrakova from Homel. Her criminal case is currently being considered by the Homel Regional Court.

    Journalist Pavel Mazheika sentenced to six years in prison

    On July 26, Pavel Mazheika, a journalist and public figure, and Yulia Yurhilevich, a former lawyer, received their sentencing from the Hrodna Regional Court. Both were sentenced to six years in prison.
