The journalist Volha Czajczyc had to spend several hours in the Baraulyany police department.

The government of Belarus continues to refrain from cooperating with the UN Human Rights Committee, the Committee’s president Yuval Shany said during the presentation of the country’s first report in 20 years.

Amid deteriorating media freedom in Belarus, MEPs condemn the repeated detention and state harassment of journalists and independent news outlets in the country, according to a resolution adopted by the European Parliament on October 4.

On October 1, representatives of the national human rights coalition presented their alternative report on the human rights situation in Belarus. The preparation of the report involved 12 human rights organizations.

BelaPAN journalists have been summoned by the Belarusian Investigative Committee over the so-called BelTA copyright infringement case.

The journalist was forced to sign a paper of cooperation.

A Belarusian court imposed a fine of 980 rubles (about $490) to cameraman Syarhei Kavaliou. The freelancer got a corresponding court order in the mail.

Members of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Volha Chaychyts and Larysa Shchyrakova have visited Paris and Brussels where they met with European politicians and journalists, to tell about the real situation in the media sphere, to draw attention to the prosecution of Belarusian journalists and to find potential solutions to the issue. The visit was organized by Syndicat national des journalists (SNJ), Le Syndicat national des journalistes CGT (SNJ-CGT), l'Union syndicale des journalistes CFDT, with the support of the European Federation of Journalists, the International Federation of Journalists and BAJ.

The annual conference Nordic Freelance 2018 has taken place in the Swedish town Malmö. The participants issued a statement of support for freelancers in Belarus, demanding to stop harassment of freelance journalists for their professional activities.

Smalyavichy court has imposed a fine of 1,225 Belarusian rubles on journalist Volha Czajczyc for her contributing to a news story about local residents’ protest.

The list includes incidents which the Belarusian Association of Journalists regards as violations of journalists' rights, committed by representatives of the authorities.

Savetski district court of Minsk started a preliminary hearings on the suit filed by businessman Arkadz Izrailevich against the Novy Chas newspaper.  Arkadz Izrailevich did not show up in the courtroom. He is represented by barrister Alena Kalazayeva . The case is heard by Judge Veranika Abramovich.
