Prosecutor General’s Office in Belarus files $7 million lawsuit against Ihar Losik
After his release, former political prisoner Ihar Losik was hit with a lawsuit from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus amounting to about $7 million, he reported on his Facebook page.

“This is the amount that, between August 9 and December 1, was paid out of the state budget to riot police officers as bonuses and overtime — when they were very diligently beating people. And now I’m supposed to return that money to the public purse,” Losik explained.
According to him, this is not the only claim: another lawsuit seeks compensation for broken handcuffs, used stun grenades, and other similar “damages.”
Losik was detained on June 25, 2020, and sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was released on September 11, 2025, with the mediation of the United States, and deported to Lithuania.
