29 March 2021
Deutsche Welle correspondent Nicholas Connolly was detained during the coverage of the protest action on Bangalore Square in Minsk on March 27. He presented a German passport, his official accreditation and the inscription “Press” on his vest, the media reports, but was still detained.
The journalist was released from the police department five hours later when the German ambassador arrived there.
According to Connolly, the law enforcers made him unblock his cell phone and show them several photos in the presence of the ambassador. If he refused, he was threatened with arrest and confiscation of cell phones and equipment.
