Independent Media Against Dictatorship: BAJ Calls for Support!

Inde­pen­dent orga­ni­za­tions and media world­wide have faced sig­nif­i­cant chal­lenges due to Pres­i­dent Trump’s announced freeze on U.S. for­eign aid for thou­sands of projects. 

Despite these chal­lenges, the largest inde­pen­dent asso­ci­a­tion of Belaru­sian jour­nal­ists (now oper­at­ing in exile) remains com­mit­ted to sus­tain­ing free jour­nal­ism in Belarus, ensur­ing that the domes­tic audi­ence is not dom­i­nat­ed by local and Russ­ian pro­pa­gan­da out­lets.

Over the past four crit­i­cal years, BAJ has pro­vid­ed var­i­ous forms of assis­tance to hun­dreds of jour­nal­ists and media out­lets.

As a Euro­pean orga­ni­za­tion and a mem­ber of the Inter­na­tion­al and Euro­pean Fed­er­a­tions of Jour­nal­ists, BAJ is proac­tive­ly call­ing on col­leagues and part­ners to sup­port its key activ­i­ties in 2025:

■ Infor­ma­tion plat­form for jour­nal­ists, mon­i­tor­ing repres­sions against jour­nal­ists and media;
■ Legal assis­tance to inde­pen­dent jour­nal­ists and media;
■ Edu­ca­tion­al pro­grams for inde­pen­dent jour­nal­ists and media spe­cial­ists;
■ Cam­paigns and sol­i­dar­i­ty actions for impris­oned jour­nal­ists;
■ Mon­i­tor­ing of Russ­ian pro­pa­gan­da and dis­in­for­ma­tion in the Belaru­sian media sphere;
■ Tar­get­ed sup­port for jour­nal­ists and inde­pen­dent media edi­to­r­i­al offices;
■ Restor­ing self-reg­u­la­tion in the Belaru­sian inde­pen­dent media sec­tor;
■ Psy­cho­log­i­cal sup­port and reha­bil­i­ta­tion pro­grams;
■ Equip­ment and tech­ni­cal sup­port for jour­nal­ists and media.
