  • JOINT STATEMENT BY MEP Robert BIEDROŃ and MEP Petras AUŠTREVIČIUSOn

14 August, the Belarusian regime denied an entrance to Belarus for two Members of European Parliament:Robert BiedrońMEP (Poland, S&D), chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with Belarus and Petras Auštrevičius MEP (Lithuania, Renew), the European Parliament’s standing rapporteur on Belarus.

“With such behaviour, the Belarusian regime refuted anypossibility aboutits readiness for a dialogue. Suchintentions were the empty words. Actions of the Belarusian regime confirmthat the only way forward for the EU is to support the Belarusian people in their unrest over brutal behaviour of the regime and call for a stepping down of Aliaksandr Lukashenka. Only after, a dialogue is possible regarding organization of new, this time free and fair, election. The future of Belarus is being decided on these days. We call upon the European Union’s institutions to remain principled when supporting and defending legitimate aspirations of the Belarusian people to live in a democratic country where the rule of law, including respect for the fundamental freedoms and human rights, prevail.”
