On Belarusian Freedom Day, Belarusian diaspora in Spain joined Solidarity Marathon

The Marathon of Sol­i­dar­i­ty with Polit­i­cal­ly Impris­oned Jour­nal­ists has been tak­ing place in coun­tries world­wide for 10 months and has already trav­eled to almost all con­ti­nents. Spain joined the action ini­ti­at­ed by the BAJ on Free­dom Day.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Belaru­sian dias­po­ra arrived at Barcelona’s square car­ry­ing por­traits of impris­oned jour­nal­ists. They aimed to remind Spaniards of the impor­tance of media free­dom.

Belaru­sians are dis­persed glob­al­ly, and jour­nal­ists and media per­son­nel play a cru­cial role in dias­po­ras in their new coun­tries. They main­tain an active polit­i­cal posi­tion. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the Belaru­sian dias­po­ra in Spain stressed the sig­nif­i­cance of par­tic­i­pat­ing in ral­lies and dis­cussing the sit­u­a­tion of their col­leagues who are cur­rent­ly incar­cer­at­ed in Belarus.

It is cru­cial to sup­port the Marathon of Sol­i­dar­i­ty with Belaru­sian polit­i­cal pris­on­ers of jour­nal­ists, which was ini­ti­at­ed in Vil­nius on 3 May 2023 by a joint effort of the Belaru­sian Asso­ci­a­tion of Jour­nal­ists and the Union of Jour­nal­ists of Lithua­nia.

BAJ calls on jour­nal­ists around the world to sup­port the sol­i­dar­i­ty action! You can print por­traits of impris­oned Belaru­sian media work­ers, take pic­tures with them in out­stand­ing places in your city (out­side Belarus) and post them on social media using the hash­tags.
