Police Seize Computer from a Blogger Who Runs for MP
On July 5 the police seized a computer and a cell phone from blogger Siarhei Piatrukhin who has recently started collecting ballot-access signatures.
The blogger says he published a report about a big corruption case three months ago. The report told about a senior official representative of the State Control Committee who allegedly had received unlawfully a land lot in the city center from the chairperson of the Brest Executive Committee. The report resulted in a criminal case. In May, the police visited the blogger to question him about an online comment concerning the SCC representative.
“I started gathering signatures to stand as a candidate, I have all my contacts data base in the computer, all my work,” says the blogger. He links the seizure and the renewal of the investigation about the comment to his activities within the electoral campaign. He is also dissatisfied why his cell phone has been seized because he bought it only a week ago – it has nothing to do with a three months’ old comment.
