    Pro-government TV journalists recorded an “interview” with the politically imprisoned journalist Ihar Karnei

    The pro-gov­ern­ment TV chan­nel ONT con­tin­ues its series of broad­casts “about employ­ees of the Amer­i­can media”. After the episodes about Andrei Kuznechyk and Ihar Losik, the pro­pa­gan­dists announced a video fea­tur­ing free­lance jour­nal­ist Ihar Karnei. It will be aired on the evening of Jan­u­ary 16.

    ONT announced a program featuring the politically imprisoned blogger Ihar Losik

    Blog­ger Ihar Losik appeared for 20 sec­onds in the pro­pa­gan­da TV show “about employ­ees of the Amer­i­can media,” which was broad­cast on ONT on Jan­u­ary 14, 2025. Like jour­nal­ist Andrei Kuznechyk, he was brought to the KGB deten­tion cen­ter specif­i­cal­ly for this “inter­view”. The gov­ern­ment-con­trolled TV sta­tion announced a “con­ver­sa­tion” with Losik for Jan­u­ary 15.

    The Belaru­sian human rights com­mu­ni­ty made a cor­re­spond­ing state­ment on Decem­ber 28. Siarhei Chabot­s­ka, the own­er and edi­tor of the Hrod­na-based s13.ru media web­site, has been detained for more than two months.

    Media-Polesye videographer Yauhen Nikalayevich’s sentence revealed

    At the begin­ning of Octo­ber this year, the court of Pin­sk and Pin­sk dis­trict found Media-Polesye video­g­ra­ph­er Yauhen Nikalayevich guilty of par­tic­i­pa­tion in mass riots. The edi­to­r­i­al board learned that Judge Yauhe­nia Mel­nik sen­tenced the jour­nal­ist to one year and six months of impris­on­ment.

    Journalist Igor Karney sentenced to another ten months in prison

    On Decem­ber 13, the Shk­lou Dis­trict Court found jour­nal­ist and polit­i­cal pris­on­er Ihar Karnei guilty of per­sis­tent dis­obe­di­ence to the demands of the prison admin­is­tra­tion. Judge Ali­ak­san­dr Tarakanau sen­tenced the jour­nal­ist to an addi­tion­al 10 months in prison.

    Ihar Karnei faces another year in prison, endures prolonged isolation in correctional facility

    Ihar Karnei, a jour­nal­ist sen­tenced to three years in prison, is cur­rent­ly serv­ing his sen­tence at Cor­rec­tion­al Facil­i­ty No. 17 in Shk­lou. He is held in the Secure Hous­ing Unit most of the time. Karnei’s new tri­al is sched­uled for Decem­ber 11. He is accused of per­sis­tent dis­obe­di­ence to the demands of the prison admin­is­tra­tion.

    On the morn­ing of Decem­ber 10, the judge of the Min­sk City Court, Vera Halauko­va, sen­tenced jour­nal­ist Vol­ha Radzivon­a­va to four years of impris­on­ment. The defen­dant was charged with four arti­cles of crim­i­nal defama­tion.
