Diplomats from the EU gathered outside the Minsk City Court today in a show of solidarity with journalist Ihar Iljaš currently on trial on charges of supporting extremism and discrediting Belarus.

The pro-government TV channel ONT continues its series of broadcasts “about employees of the American media”. After the episodes about Andrei Kuznechyk and Ihar Losik, the propagandists announced a video featuring freelance journalist Ihar Karnei. It will be aired on the evening of January 16.

ONT announced a program featuring the politically imprisoned blogger Ihar Losik
Blogger Ihar Losik appeared for 20 seconds in the propaganda TV show “about employees of the American media,” which was broadcast on ONT on January 14, 2025. Like journalist Andrei Kuznechyk, he was brought to the KGB detention center specifically for this “interview”. The government-controlled TV station announced a “conversation” with Losik for January 15.

Ihar Karnei faces another year in prison, endures prolonged isolation in correctional facility
Ihar Karnei, a journalist sentenced to three years in prison, is currently serving his sentence at Correctional Facility No. 17 in Shklou. He is held in the Secure Housing Unit most of the time. Karnei’s new trial is scheduled for December 11. He is accused of persistent disobedience to the demands of the prison administration.
