  • TUT.BY Journalist Borisevich Transferred To Gomel Women’s Colony

As TUT.BY learned, recently our colleague Katerina Borisevich was transferred to the women’s colony in Gomel. Katerina was sentenced to six months of imprisonment in the so-called “0 ‰ of alcohol” case. The term of imprisonment expires on 19 May, that is, in two days she must be released.

Recall that Katerina Borisevich was tried for disclosing medical secrets, which, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, entailed grave consequences, that is “increased tension in society, the creation of an atmosphere of mistrust in the competent state bodies, encouraging citizens to aggression and illegal actions”. Emergency hospital doctor Artem Sorokin was also found guilty in the case, he was sentenced to two years of imprisonment suspended for a year and released in a courtroom, while Borisevich remained in custody. Both Katerina and Artem pleaded not guilty.

Recall that last November, the Investigative Committee outlined its version of events, stating that “during the initial examination, along with bodily injuries, he [Roman Bondarenko] was diagnosed with alcohol intoxication.” However, almost simultaneously with this statement, a copy of a medical document emerged online, which indicated that there was no alcohol in Bondarenko’s blood. Borisevich was tasked with checking this information. After a while, an article was published on TUT.BYEmergency Hospital Doctor: “Bondarenko Had 0 ‰ Of Alcohol, We Found Nothing” [In English]

The prosecutor’s office filed a protest against Borisevich’s verdict “in view of the leniency of the sentence imposed”, but the Minsk City Court upheld it – six months in prison. Our colleague was detained on 19 November 2020, all this time she was kept in a pre-trial detention centre (first in Minsk, then in Zhodino, and in Mogilev), where one day equals one day in a colony. Her prison term expires on 19 May, Katerina should be released.
