    The office of HRC Viasna detained

    At 1 pm, spe­cial squad burst into the office of the human rights cen­ter Vias­na. The peo­ple were laid down face to the floor, the author­i­ties start­ed search­es. Around 30 peo­ple were detained.
    The human rights orga­ni­za­tion, whose leader is the famous human rights defend­er Ales Biali­ats­ki, con­ducts mon­i­tor­ing of mass events. obser­vance of civ­il rights etc.

    Human rights defend­ers of Vias­na were set free after 3 pm, and are now work­ing near the police depart­ments. The office of Vias­na wasn’t searched. Among the detainees (57 peo­ple), there were observers, includ­ing inter­na­tion­al observ­er orga­ni­za­tions and mass media (Maria Rode, Tat­siana Hau­rylchyk, Han­na Badzi­a­ka).

    Around sev­er­al dozen jour­nal­ists have been detained dur­ing the day while cov­er­ing the action on the Lib­er­ty Day, March 25. The jour­nal­ists were detained indis­crim­i­nate­ly togeth­er with oth­er peo­ple in the streets (among which were ordi­nary passers-by). In most cas­es, cor­re­spon­dents have been tak­en to the police depart­ment, where their doc­u­ments are checked, then they are set free. The exact list of names and sit­u­a­tions will fol­low lat­er.

    Three jour­nal­ists were beat­en dur­ing deten­tion (Kat­siary­na Bakhvala­va, Ihar Iliyash, Vol­ha Davy­da­va) at Kas­trych­nit­skaya Square.

    There are inci­dents with bro­ken equip­ment (Liubou Lunio­va, Dzmit­ry Buyanau).

    A reporter form Kom­so­mol­skaya Prav­da v Belarusi Iry­na Koz­lik described to the Euro­ra­dio how their cre­den­tials had been ver­i­fied. She told that jour­nal­ists have been treat­ed dif­fer­ent­ly from oth­er detainees, but only at the police depart­ment.
