BAJ adopts Gender Policy

The pol­i­cy aims to ensure equal oppor­tu­ni­ties for all mem­bers, staff, and employ­ees of the orga­ni­za­tion, regard­less of gen­der iden­ti­ty, age, mar­i­tal sta­tus, or oth­er per­son­al char­ac­ter­is­tics.

BAJ adopts Gen­der Pol­i­cy

BAJ rec­og­nizes gen­der equal­i­ty as one of the fun­da­men­tal con­di­tions of free and pro­fes­sion­al jour­nal­ism. The orga­ni­za­tion adheres to the prin­ci­ples of equal­i­ty, non-dis­crim­i­na­tion, and respect for human dig­ni­ty.

The orga­ni­za­tion’s gen­der pol­i­cy cov­ers the prin­ci­ples of account­abil­i­ty and pro­tec­tion from all forms of dis­crim­i­na­tion, the plan­ning of events and activ­i­ties with a gen­der-sen­si­tive approach, equal oppor­tu­ni­ties for par­tic­i­pa­tion in BAJ and its gov­er­nance, the pre­ven­tion of vio­lence and harass­ment, the cre­ation of a safe work­ing envi­ron­ment, mech­a­nisms for respond­ing to unac­cept­able behav­ior, stan­dards for the dis­tri­b­u­tion of con­tent by BAJ’s infor­ma­tion resources, and much more.

BAJ’s Gen­der Pol­i­cy applies to the orga­ni­za­tion’s staff, its vol­un­teers, interns, and mem­bers of its gov­ern­ing bod­ies (the Board and the Coun­cil).

BAJ ensures that gen­der equal­i­ty issues are incor­po­rat­ed into strate­gic and oper­a­tional plan­ning, inter­nal reg­u­la­tion, per­for­mance assess­ment, and orga­ni­za­tion­al devel­op­ment. The imple­men­ta­tion of the gen­der pol­i­cy is accom­pa­nied by appro­pri­ate orga­ni­za­tion­al mea­sures, includ­ing:

• tak­ing gen­der equal­i­ty issues into account in pro­gram and project activ­i­ties, as well as in the man­age­ment sys­tem;
• inform­ing those cov­ered by the Pol­i­cy about its con­tent, prin­ci­ples, and imple­men­ta­tion mech­a­nisms;
• mech­a­nisms for pre­vent­ing and respond­ing to cas­es of gen­der-based vio­lence and harass­ment;
• main­tain­ing a gen­der-sen­si­tive approach in the man­age­ment of the orga­ni­za­tion, includ­ing mon­i­tor­ing and assess­ing the progress achieved.

To coor­di­nate the imple­men­ta­tion of the gen­der pol­i­cy, the BAJ Board appoints a Gen­der Com­mis­sion­er.

The Belaru­sian Asso­ci­a­tion of Jour­nal­ists notes the impor­tant role of spe­cial­ized gen­der orga­ni­za­tions and experts in prepar­ing the pol­i­cy and thanks col­leagues for their exper­tise.
