Free­dom of expres­sion and access to infor­ma­tion are fun­da­men­tal rights enshrined in the Uni­ver­sal Dec­la­ra­tion of Human Rights. Togeth­er with the safe­ty of jour­nal­ists, these rights are pro­mot­ed in SDG 16 of the 2030 Agen­da and are crit­i­cal to fos­ter­ing peace­ful and inclu­sive soci­eties.
Co-orga­nized by the Mul­ti­lat­er­al Dia­logue Kon­rad-Ade­nauer-Stiftung Gene­va and UPR Info, the side event “The Role of Media in the Human Rights Coun­cil” will enable a dia­logue between prac­ti­tion­ers, experts, civ­il soci­ety, and states on lessons learned and the way for­ward when it comes to the engage­ment of media pro­fes­sion­als with the HRC and its mech­a­nisms, includ­ing the Uni­ver­sal Peri­od­ic Review.
