Andrzej Poczobut awarded Jan Karski Mission Medal

Accord­ing to the TV chan­nel, in this way, the Jan Kars­ki Soci­ety expressed sol­i­dar­i­ty with the impris­oned jour­nal­ist. The deci­sion to award him with the medal comes as a reac­tion to the pres­sure Andrzej Poc­zobut faces in the Navap­o­latsk cor­rec­tion­al facil­i­ty. A few days ago, it became known that Poc­zobut had been sent to a secure hous­ing unit for six months.

The Jan Kars­ki Mis­sion Medal and cer­tifi­cate will be giv­en to Andrzej Poczobut’s fam­i­ly.

The medal was estab­lished in hon­or of Jan Kars­ki, a Pol­ish polit­i­cal fig­ure and par­tic­i­pant in the resis­tance move­ment. Dur­ing World War II, Kars­ki doc­u­ment­ed the mass exter­mi­na­tion of the Jew­ish pop­u­la­tion by the Nazi regime in occu­pied ter­ri­to­ry. He was hon­ored as Right­eous Among the Nations for his work in expos­ing the truth about the Holo­caust.

Andrzej Poc­zobut was detained in March 2021 in Grod­no. In 2023 the sen­tence was announced – 8 years of impris­on­ment. On June 21 it became known that the polit­i­cal pris­on­er was trans­ferred to Navap­o­latsk Cor­rec­tion­al Facil­i­ty No. 1.
